Sterling silver is a very soft metal and can easily be tarnished. Gemstones pose the risk of cracks and discolouration if not properly looked after. The Rose-gold and gold plating on the jewellery eventually wears off with use. The speed at which the plating fades will depend on multiple factors including the use of skin care products, perfumes, your skin’s natural PH, levels of perspiration etc. Hence caring and storing your favourite jewellery, the right way will keep it clean, shiny and ready to wear for an extended time.

Here are some simple care tips to keep your jewellery sparkling and long lasting:

  • Do not wear jewellery when doing physical work such as housekeeping, gardening or rigorous exercise. Knocking or hitting the stone against hard surfaces can cause fractures on the stone.
  • Do not expose jewellery to chemicals such as household cleaning products, detergents, toothpaste, perfumes, lotions, ammonia, bleach or chlorine as it can cause discolouration of the stones.
  • Take off your jewellery while swimming in the pool as chlorine can bleach the precious stones.
  • Exposing gemstones to heat and sunlight can impact its durability and colour. Temperature and pressure variation can sometimes fade or cause cracks on the stones. So, it is important to keep your gemstones away from direct heat and sunlight.
  • Put your Minzara jewellery on last, after wearing the make up and take the jewellery off first as you get home. Remember to wipe of any makeup, oil or dirt using a clean, soft cloth from the jewellery before storing them safely.
  • Do not use an ultrasonic cleaner unless recommended by a trained and qualified gemmologist.
  • After cleaning or rinsing your jewellery, dry it completely before storing in an airtight bag.
  • Never soak the jewellery for long time in any solution as it can cause discoloration and loosen the gemstones.
  • Some gemstones are porous and may absorb chemicals, which can build up inside the stone and tint them. So simply polish each piece separately using a non-abrasive cleaning cloth and store them in cloth pouches.
  • Store each piece separately in a dark and dry location with consistent temperature, keep away from sunlight and away from humid places like bathroom. Store them preferably in a fabric-lined jewellery box or jewellery pouch to avoid scratches and retard tarnish on sterling silver.
